The total cost of the second floor construction is Rs. 21,48,800.00 (Euro. 37,698) realized by the joint support of the 4 Dutch organizations.

The Book “The Struggle of the Survivors”

Karunalaya involved in a major relief and rehabilitation operation in Chennai City immediately after the tsunami disaster more focused in North Chennai coastal communities in tandem with the Government departments. The tsunami survivors in North Chennai are a unique group of people, who experienced multiple disasters (natural and man made) and they had to struggle for their survival. The whole experiences of living in the temporary shelters, fighting for their rights and entitlements until they were allotted permanent houses are lessons to be learnt for the future. The systematic efforts of Karunalaya to address such situation as we journeyed with the community for the 3 years after tsunami were special. Therefore it was felt that such experience should be documented for the future. The book titled “The Struggle of the Survivors” Experience of the journey with the survivors of tsunami in Chennai is published by Karunalaya and funded by Cordaid, The Netherlands. Mr. V. Arun, Environmentalist and Member of Executive Committee of Karunalaya will present his observation on the book before the release of the book.
